Better data is needed to prepare the information basis for inland waterway transport related policy decisions. In order to strengthen IWT, it is essential to create a solid data collection scheme on European scale to support sound decision making in transport policy. Through this, also “policy progress monitoring” related to the achievement of the IWT dimension of the TEN-T Core network, shall be facilitated.
Actions in this field aim at specifying mechanisms to reduce data gaps concerning IWT infrastructure in Europe. Furthermore, the multimodal TEN-T corridor implementation is supported by providing practical guidance for the preparation and implementation of the multimodal corridor work plans from an inland navigation perspective to the consortia elaborating the plans and the European Corridor Coordinators.
